The fire truck is a Dodge truck,
and I'm going to say about 1952 for the year, give or take
a year or two, I was about 8 years old then! (sez Tommy) hmmm.
It was a pumper, and I would have to guess it had about a 500-gallon
tank. A "T"
tank, which means, looking at it from the end it was in the shape
of a "T". they would store hoses on top of the tank, and had
storage compartments on the sides.
It was probably powered by the Dodge
6 cyl. inline flat head gasoline engine, and probably a 4-speed
transmission, and a 2-speed rear axle. They were very common back
then. It was probably built for a rural fire company, because it
would be cheaper then a commercial built fire truck, (like American
La France, Hahn, Seagraves, etc.) The bigger towns and cities had
more tax money, and could afford the others.
A lot of small towns, had some small oil companies,
who had volunteers, and put 2 + 2 together, and said I bet Allied
Tank could build us a fire truck! They were right. Allied still
makes pumpers today and we have more photo's in the archives to
be released soon of more modern Fire Equipment.
