Welcome to our photo gallery of classic
tank trucks and equipment. What could possibly be more glamorous
than a tank truck at a trade show back from the beginning? This
is the classic Allied Rebel; the tank truck (and the model) had
full skirting as was the tradition at the time.
The photo with the young lady
on the running board was taken at Haddon Hall in Atlantic City.
The year was around 1952-1954, She was a singer- model that was
hired for the show. That was a "REBEL"
style tank which had the meter facing the rear, with a large door
at the rear, and two hose exit doors one each side, for delivery
on both sides, (like on a one way street). The hose reel was inverted,(hung
from the top) as opposed to sitting on the right rear deck with
only one way to pull the hose.
It also featured replacement panels,(the
side skirting). Instead of welding the steel skirt directly to
the tank shell, it had clips welded to the tank shell from which
it hung. It was welded at the front and the rear only. Many of
the assembly techniques used on trucks of this era are done differently
today, but one thing is certain, Allied Quality is still there!
